One family in Christ

Laudato Si and Sustainability

At St John the Baptist RC, we are always thinking of ways to look after our common home and show love to God's creation.

The children use their floor books to display their learning when answering Big Questions based on the environment .

Early Years love to explore the wonders of our Common Home in their continuous provision.

Year 5 and 6 learned about the importance of recycling your waste. The children were amazed at how much we can re-use and take care of God's creation by thinking carefully about our own actions.

We are all called to look after God's creation. Under the careful supervision of Mrs Hodgkinson, all children maintain the outdoor areas around the school and prepare for upcoming initiatives.

This year the children have been busy planting and caring for our new Miyawki forest. We worked with City of Trees and Manchester climate change to create a new forest. We used our talents from God to help us care for our common home.

The gardening team are busy preparing the soil ready for our crops. The crops that have been grown throughout the year will be harvested and donated to Rochdale soup kitchen to be used to feed the homeless.

This year, we'd like to get the parents involved too!

"We received this world as an inheritance from past generations, but also as a loan from future generations, to whom we will have to return it!"- Pope Francis

Our Laudato Si Centre

We were very lucky to have Bishop John Arnold visit us and St John the Baptist RC and bless our Laudato Si centre.

The centre is a quiet, peaceful place where children can be close with nature. The space provides children the opportunity flourish by learning all about gardening and how to grow your own fruit and vegetables. We love distributing what we have grown with our neighbours at Rochdale Soup Kitchen.
