Head Teacher
Our school is a Voluntary Aided Roman Catholic Primary and our church is St. John the Baptist, Dowling Street. We have very close links with the church and Father Michael visits us every week. The Governing Body comprises Foundation governors and also elected members from the community, parents and staff.
We are a one form entry school. Children are admitted according to age into the relevant class, with our Nursery class being for our youngest children then Reception, Year 1, Year 2, up to Year 6. Our children leave at the end of Year 6 and go on to a number of different secondary schools. We are one of the feeder schools for St. Cuthbert's RC High school, Rochdale.
The staff always expect a wide range of ability, and consider the children as individuals with individual educational needs.
We are officially an outstanding Catholic school, please read our Section Report on the Policies & Reports tab.
Safeguarding
St John the Baptist Catholic Primary School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. Please see School Information for more Safeguarding information.
Attendance
Every day in school is important for your child.
Unauthorised leave in term time could result in a penalty notice being issued.
Following the Supreme Court’s decision to uphold a penalty notice for unauthorised leave, the Education Welfare Service in Rochdale will be issuing penalty notice for unauthorised leave in term time. The parents of any child missing ten sessions (five school days) due to unauthorised leave (for example, family holidays) in term time will be issued with a penalty notice.
These penalties are per parent per child, which means that both parents can be fined for each child – a mother and father taking two children out of school in term time could be fined £60 each for each child, making a total fine of £240 if paid within 21 days, or a total of £480 if paid after 21 days.
Please note: Leave in term time will not be authorised unless there are exceptional circumstances. "Exceptional circumstances" can be described as rare, significant, unavoidable and short AND that the leave/absence could not reasonably be scheduled at another time.
Please see School Information for more Attendance information.
