Reading for pleasure

Reading for Pleasure is a high priority at St John's RC! We timetable it to ensure that children get to read a book of their choice on a regular basis.

We also want children to have plenty of places to curl up and get cosy when reading so we have developed many spaces around school to facilitate this.

Children at St John's also take part in regular reading for pleasure events: storytelling week, world book day, visits to the theatre, visits from pantomime companies and many more.

This year, every class will be taking a trip to Waterstones in Manchester. Each child can choose a brand new book and take it home with them. Instilling a love of reading and experiencing the joy of browsing in a bookshop has been delightful for all the classes who have been so far.
